HVC is a service that allows physicians, dentists, veterinarians, chiropractors, optometrists, physiotherapists, home health care providers, hospice facilities, hospitals, pharmacies, laboratories and other healthcare entities to develop a HealthVault connection in order to send digital copies of patients' health records through a secure and simple process. One or more documents in the health record can be combined into a Health Information Package (HIP). Patients can import these packages directly into their HealthVault account and share it with other providers.

HVC support transfer of documents in Continuity of Care Record (CCR) and the Continuity of Care Document (CCD), which have become the standard formats for healthcare data transfer. However, if the provider's system is unable to generate these formats, Health Postbox Express works with almost any electronic document format including but not limited to PDF, GIF, TIFF, JPEG, PNG, BMP, word documents and text. Formats not currently supported can be added.
